Have you ever used But at the beginning of a sentence
I don't hear the difference between the pronunciation of but and butt, yet they both sound somewhat different. I don't understand this. Qwertyxp2000 (talk) 01:46, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
- As far as my (General US) accent goes, butt and but (pronounced clearly) sound exactly the same, but in the middle of a sentence, 'but' can become unstressed and take on the sound of /bət/. Is that what you meant? ~Sylvanmoon ☾ 02:47, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
- Okay. I have a strange combination of accents of different countries, so I don't seem to know every single rule of my home of New Zealand with their accents. I don't even know whether it is similar to Australian accent or whether I am actually hearing a notable New Zealand accent across my fellow New Zealanders.
