This view is looking east toward the Black Mountains from the West Side.
The rough, brown surface of the saltpan consists of salt (halite) darkened by dust, silt, and other organic and mineral compounds. The rough texture is responsible for the name of the landscape of the salt pan: the Devil's Golf Course.
