Hello, Do you think this page (and similar pages) should be split in two - like earth and Earth? I think this makes the page a bit more complicated. In many ways it needs to be on two pages, but is there any way to make it easier or simpler? --H2g2bob 17:53, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

I definitely think this should be on two separate pages, because that is what the lowercase/uppercase distinction is for, right? If one is spelled with a capital letter, it needs a separate page, just like May the month and may the modal need to be on separate pages. It doesn't make the page more complicated so much as it makes finding things a touch more complicated, but I think that is a necessary complication, and each one of those should have a link to the other (at the bottom of the page, I think, because it looks tacky at the top, IMO). People will have to have an idea of what to look for (for example, in Spanish the months are lowercase, so they'll have to know to check the uppercase), but I think just having the link to the other page is the best and most intuitive way of providing that information. Explanation of any kind would be problematic, I'd say. There is one good thing about having the see also at the top of the page: it shows that it is another form of the word, and it isn't lost in the see also section. I'm thinking I'll remove the usage section here, since all mass nouns work in the same way, and we should make an article on mass noun to explain how they work. A short version of the explanations (like the usage of a noun, verb, etc.) should probably also be at the top of the corresponding category pages. --Cromwellt|talk 16:09, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Another definition needed

We need to add a definition of earth as an Earth-like planet as well, since Earth is only this planet, but the plural is used. The proper noun is only singular (there is only one), but the common noun also exists with that definition. --Cromwellt|talk|contris 18:50, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Plural

There are countable senses of earth which can be plural, in particular in chemistry (rare earths) and in the electrical sense of connecting something to an earth (the third prong on an electrical plug).--Brett 19:27, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
