Moved from Wiktionary talk:Pages that link to Template:Wiktionary on Simple English Wikipedia change

This isn't nearly as complete as my list. I have literally gone through each page and looked at what words the template says we have here. This seems to be a less useful, redundant version of what already exists. Updating this list will also be much harder than updating my list, since my are list not in alphabetical order, but in the order they appear on the "what links here" page. Because the list needs to be updated by hand, and by someone who goes through thoroughly like I do, it's almost more appropriate for it to remain in user space. I'm open to finding out the best way to deal with this, but I think that between the 2, mine is the more realistically usable list. Similar to Creol creating a list of the most wanted pages and us putting it on the New changes navigation box, I could put this list on its own page and we could link to it. Thoughts? · Tygrrr... 16:01, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh! I didn't know you had that list.
Would you please give an example of a word that is on your list and not on the list I made, and where you found that word?
I made the list by taking all the words here on Simple English Wikipedia, but I didn't look at each page. I used computer programs to format it and put it in alphabetical order.
The purpose is to have a link from the Main Page to a list of words that people can work on. It would be even better to have a list to only redlinked words (or mostly redlinked; some will become blue as they're written and that's OK, but it's not so good to have a long list where it's hard to find any redlinks). I was thinking whether I could write a program (not a bot) to find the redlinks; I think I can but haven't tried.
It may be better to have it the way you have it, with many words on one line. I think people can find redlinks to work on faster that way.
The list I made would also need to be updated somehow from time to time.
Maybe it would make sense to just edit Wiktionary:Pages that link to Template:Wiktionary on Simple English Wikipedia and put your content there.
Any way of doing it is fine, as long as people can easily find redlinks to work on. Coppertwig(talk) 18:44, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure there would be any other way to do it thoroughly that isn't by hand. What I did the first time is go through this and create the list, then click on each one to make sure that they've got it linked properly (i.e. uses correct capitalization) and to see if they have more than one word linked (e.g. w:Bob says we have definitions of Bob, bob and BOB). When I go through to update, I start at the beginning and see if there are any that have been added or removed, checking each one to see exactly what definition it says we have here. Going through it like this also allows me to remove {{wiktionary}} from pages on simple:wiki that shouldn't have it (i.e. non-English words or encyclopedic entries that don't belong in a dictionary).
Rather than putting this list into a common area, I really feel it's best that it be maintained by one user (in this case, myself). What I would recommend is that I create user:Tygrrr/Pages that link to Template:Wiktionary on Simple English Wikipedia and put my list there with a disclaimer at the top (similar to Creol's). We can still link to it from the main page and wherever else people like. I would then also suggest a re-direct from Wiktionary:Pages that link to Template:Wiktionary on Simple English Wikipedia to my page. I can update it at the first of each month (or however often people want) and I would also be willing to update on request. It's really the best way to be consistent and make sure we're not missing anything. And it's really no trouble since I've already been maintaining it for my personal use for quite some time. If there are no objections, I will go ahead and do this in a few days. · Tygrrr... 19:24, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
It's OK with me if you want to do it that way. I see that this list I made is wrong: it says "zeeshan" and "worcestershire" but it should be "Zeeshan" and "Worcestershire". When I made the list I just changed them all to small letters.
Maybe it doesn't matter, but the name of the list won't be quite right. It shouldn't be "pages that link to Template:Wiktionary..." but something like "pages that Simple English Wikipedia says we have" or something. I mean, they might not have a page BOB, they might have a page Bob that says that we have a page BOB. Maybe that's not important. Coppertwig(talk) 22:47, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Update: I have just created User:Tygrrr/Pages Simple English Wikipedia says we have. Please review it and let me know if there are any changes you would like me to make before I redirect this page there. I also intend to create Wiktionary:Pages that link to Template:Wiktionarypar on Simple English Wikipedia and redirect it as well. Let me know what you think! :-) Thanks! · Tygrrr... 16:50, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Great work, however, I do not think that we should have a page in the Wiktionary namespace redirecting towards the userspace...I would just delete the Wiktionary page and change all the links to the deleted page to the newly created one. Razorflame 17:32, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

What's the final word? Should we redirect this page to User:Tygrrr/Pages Simple English Wikipedia says we have? Or should we just delete it? · Tygrrr... 21:11, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I would delete this page and redirect all links to this page and change them to point to your userpage. Cheers, Razorflame 15:21, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough, will do. We can always recreate it as a redirect if someone wants. I will also move this conversation to User talk:Tygrrr/Pages Simple English Wikipedia says we have so as to keep a record of it. · Tygrrr... 15:33, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Y Done I have deleted the page that this talk page came from and changed the links on the Main Page and Wiktionary:Word lists to direct to the userpage for this page. Cheers, Razorflame 15:51, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
