Counting the words and other notes
changeHello, I would propose this modification (or something like this), for adding the numbers of words in each category.
Personal notes: 4 words were added (least, less, more, most) btw the original list (en:Appendix:Basic_English_word_list or Wiktionary:Basic_English_ordered_wordlist) Shouldn't "Extended Basic English" also known as the BE1500 contains 1500 words (and not 2025)? Pure question... In the same way we find grey/gray and plough/plow, we could have behaviour/behavior, colour/color, harbour/harbor and humour/humor…
My proposal (I only add word counts):
- This list consists of 2025 words
- the Basic English 850 (854 words).
- International words which are common (206 words).
- 100 words of general interest, science or business, and 50 specialty words within that general area (661 words).
- Compound words made up of Basic words, where the origin makes sense (215 words).
- New words made from adding the allowed endings, -er, -ed, -ing, -ly, -s, and the prefix un- (89 words).
