Examples change

Are you interested in learning how to come up with good examples?--Brett (talk) 23:45, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you have any hints, they would be appreciated!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 23:46, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Have a look here. Notice the settings on the left. In particular, note that there's a window for "COLLOCATES". If you go to the site directly, that won't be there. You'll have to click on the word to get the space, but don't enter anything. Then click where it says "CLICK TO SEE OPTIONS" to get the list of options and set GROUP BY to LEMMAS as it is in the example. Don't worry about anything else. It will all set itself.
Now when you do the search, it will come up with the list of words in blue that you see on the right beginning with [MOST]. If you click on each word (e.g., [MOST]), that will present you with a bunch of examples. Scroll through what you find until you get one that's meaningful and short enough. Make some simple edits if needed and you've got your example. In this case, gentlest isn't a common word, so you won't have many good examples, but try it with something else. Good luck. Let me know if you have questions.--Brett (talk) 01:04, 30 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Wow that makes it much easier. Thanks a lot!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 01:10, 30 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Interwiki change

Don't worry about that. There are bots that take care of it.--Brett (talk) 01:22, 4 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yep. I said I would knock it off for a bit and see what happens. The bots made me proud. Thanks! --Gordonrox24 | Talk 21:56, 4 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

related words change

gravestone is related to grave but not to graveyard.--Brett (talk) 22:30, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Oh... I thought it was, because you would usually find a gravestone in a graveyard... Is there a guideline we can follow, or a general rule of thumb to help us out here? Thanks, any guidance helps! --Gordonrox24 | Talk 22:48, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Related words are the derived forms, not simply semantically related. To see examples, have a look here. That lists headwords with their derived and inflected forms. The inflected forms (like plurals, and past tense) should be listed at the top of the page, not in the related words.--Brett (talk) 01:29, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ahhh I see. Thank you!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 01:55, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Stopping by... change

I Gordonrox24! I hope you are doing well recently. I am just stopping by to thank you for helping out such as small wiki. We could not have done it without your tireless efforts in improving the wiki. Thank you! Hydriz (talk) 09:16, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I enjoy the small wiki feel. :) --Gordonrox24 | Talk 16:54, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Vandal change

You fingered the wrong IP address. 216.100.215.5 is the one who was vandalizing. 180.149.8.139, who you warned, actually reverted the vandalism.--Brett (talk) 18:25, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wow I don't think I've ever done that before. Will replace the warning with a welcome. Thanks for the note.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 18:30, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

E-mail change

Hey. I sent you an email few days back, but I don't see any reply in my inbox. Did you receive the email? Regards, Pmlineditor (t · c · l) 14:32, 13 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey Pmlineditor. Just checked my mail and junk folder and don't see it. Maybe you can resend. Sorry. --Gordonrox24 | Talk 17:13, 13 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Admin change

Hey Gordonrox, would you be interested in me nominating you for admin status? I've seen you create quite a few entries and help out, I think you'll do well with the extra tools. Sysop standards here are not high in my exprience. Let me know what you think. :) Tempodivalse [talk] 17:15, 15 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey Tempodivalse. Thanks for the offer, but I must decline for now. In September I will begin a time of extended traveling, and may only have internet connection once a month. So, until we are a little closer to September and I have a better idea of where I am going to be, I'm trying not to take on any more online responsibilities as I don't think I will be able to be as active as normal from September onwards for around 9 months. If, in September, it turns out that I will be able to be more active than originally thought, then maybe I can take up your offer then. Thanks though! --Gordonrox24 | Talk 18:27, 15 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
^this was what I had emailed you about. ;) If you think you have the time to become an admin here, you can inform me as well. Cheers, Pmlineditor (t · c · l) 10:31, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks :) --Gordonrox24 | Talk 11:28, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Help change

When writing articles, can the definition only be 1 sentence long? Does it have a full stop/period at the end? How many examples should the article have? What is the maximum number of examples? Thank you, DJDunsie (talk) 14:11, 16 August 2011 (UTC).Reply

Gordonrox is not very active here at the moment, so I'll reply for him. The definition should be clear yet as short and simple as possible. It can be more than one sentence, with all the punctuation included. There is no limit to the number of example sentences, but I suggest not using more than 3-4 per definition. Use your best judgment, and remember that the goal is to make things easy for an English learner to understand. Don't overwhelm the reader. Tempodivalse [talk] 15:31, 16 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for answering Tempodivalse. Sorry I'm not very active, I'm not very active at any project right now. Hope to help out more though. Thanks!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 16:34, 19 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

huskys change

Hello. Are you sure huskys is the plural for husky? According to en:huskys it is not. --Ferien (talk) 19:27, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ferien: Hi! Thanks for catching that. Just going to fast with the accelerate tool. Will fix. --Gordonrox24 | Talk 22:45, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. The accelerate tool hasn't been working for me recently and I don't really know why. --Ferien (talk) 19:20, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

It seems to really be affected by what browser you are using. When I use Firefox I notice it doesn't work right away, and takes 10-15 seconds to properly show up. Not sur why. Gordonrox24 | Talk 20:07, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I will try using some other browsers and see whether that helps. Thanks --Ferien (talk) 21:06, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Update... The problem was never with my browser but instead because I had 2017 wikitext mode turned on, which doesn't support adding text from the URL for some reason. --Ferien (talk) 11:28, 29 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

IRC ping change

Hello. With regards to the question you asked on IRC, yes, I just grab'em from en.wikt. --Minorax (talk) 15:29, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Awesome, thanks. Gordonrox24 | Talk 15:45, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
