change

You may want to note the above report, which is why I nominated the pages related to Pakistan for deletion. --Rschen7754 22:29, 20 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that. I am having doubts about whether or not to delete those pages because they look very legitimate to me, but of course it is getting a real pain to have so many Pakistani entries being created. Do add your comment here regarding the deletion of those pages. Cheers. --Hydriz (talk) 02:22, 21 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Simple English wikipedia. Does its ban against me affect my ability to edit here?

change

Hello, I was banned from Simple English wikipedia. I believe its ok for me to edit here, because I believe Simple English wiktionary is separate from wikipedia, am I correct or mistaken?PaulBustion88 (talk) 05:00, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the Simple English Wiktionary is separate from the Simple English Wikipedia. However, we do have rules that you should continue to follow, and you may be blocked from changing pages if you do violate them here too. Cheers. --Hydriz (talk) 05:02, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Is there anything wrong with my edits so far? In particular I want to know if there was anything wrong with my edit to puberty,[2], because that was the article on Simple English I was most criticized for changing.PaulBustion88 (talk) 05:09, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
It seems fine to me, thank you for expanding the definition! If you need more help, do feel free to contact me or leave a message on Wiktionary:Simple talk. --Hydriz (talk) 05:12, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
On English wikipedia and simple English wikipedia, I was criticized for calling pedophilia an adult sexual attraction to prepubescent children, because of the fact that the minimum age for diagnosis is 16, while the age of majority is usually 18, so they said calling a 16-17 year old an adult in this context is inappropriate, but I think saying "adult or adolescent" sounds kind of awkward, and I think it would be reasonable to say that in the sense of the word adult that is being used when diagnosing a pedophile by a psychiatrist a 16 year old could be considered in that sense because he/she has completed his/her sexual development and although he/she has not completed mental development, he/she has a partially adult mind, its not a legal term, so we're obviously not talking about adult in the sense of the age of majority or age of consent for sex when we use the term while discussing pedophilia. Is it ok to just say "adult" in the definition instead of saying "adult or adolescent" since they are adults in the sense that we are discussing here, or is that to atypical a use of language?PaulBustion88 (talk) 05:44, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
We do not have a "rule" on that, so I believe it is fine. Other editors are welcome to make changes on what you have written, so such a problem would not be significant. --Hydriz (talk) 05:48, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm leaving

change

I decided to leave simple English wiktionary. It seems like I do a bad job no matter where I edit. --PaulBustion88 (talk) 04:00, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I changed my mind, I will stay, I'll just edit more carefully

change
I changed my mind. I decided to do some more editing. Let me know if I make any mistakes. Also I'm sorry about the mistake I made with the email.I did delete the email from the wiki talk pages, its still in the history, I requested it be deleted from the histories also, there was nothing more I could do. I've learned not to do it though. --PaulBustion88 (talk) 05:23, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Changing back to previous account

change

Actually I think using PaulBustion87 is more appropriate than PaulBustion88 because I was born in 1987, so its more normal. So I'm using that account from now on and retiring PaulBustion88. --PaulBustion87 (talk) 00:20, 10 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the Grand Orient edit

change

I'm sorry for making the Grand Orient entry to complex. I'll try to be more simple. Maybe reading Charles Ogden's writings on simple English and how to avoid complex words will help. PaulBustion87 (talk) 07:06, 10 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Request and apology

change

I apologize, this is my fault. But an editor on English wikipedia criticized me for quoting her in my edit summaries. Could you please delete all my edit summaries where I quoted other editors. I apologize for this. PaulBustion88 (talk) 09:56, 10 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I am not entirely certain if this warrants the deletion of the change summaries, I will have a look into this. --Hydriz (talk) 10:22, 10 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
That would essentially disrupt the edit history. If there is no good reason like attacks, personal info etc., then there is no reason to delete edit summaries. -Barras talk 18:54, 10 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
I did not attack anyone personally, but one of the editors said she did not like my quoting her criticism of me. And she has been harassing me in general lately, so I would like it deleted so she does not have an excuse to harass me. I know its my fault, I apologize and accept responsibility.PaulBustion87 (talk) 20:48, 10 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
What I'm saying is this editor is harassing me on English wikipedia every chance she gets, and she's arguing its justified because I quoted her and used her screen name in my edit summaries. If those were deleted it would remove part of her excuse for harassing me. PaulBustion88 (talk) 02:49, 11 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm leaving

change

I'm leaving this project. It looks like I've made at least one editor angry and I believe he's planning to have me blocked, and I possibly have irritated one other editor. I do not think editing here will work for me in the future, so I think it is best for me to move on. PaulBustion88 (talk) 02:08, 16 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Wordlist

I defer to your judgement, but some of the words on that wordslist do not seem appropriate to a Simple English dictionary. They are not common words. That's why I removed them. You've deleted my SIMPLE1540 word list suggesting to make a personal stub instead. Where can I do just that ? Sorry, you indicated a personal subpage. Jansegers (talk) 13:11, 3 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Personal subpages are pages that exist under your username, something like User:Jansegers/SOMETHING. I suggest you create the list and put it at say, User:Jansegers/Simple1540. Hope this helps. --Hydriz (talk) 13:37, 3 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello, have a problem in several articles and verbets of Wikipedia and Wiktionary in Portuguese, English and Spanish!

change

Was be saying that comic strip, charge and cartoon are synonymous, when, in really, are different things!

Comic strip (tira cômica in Portuguese and tira cómica in Spanish): short duration comics, with the frames (which usually range from one to five, three being the most common) disposed and organized in the form of a strip, such as own name already implies and being or not humorous. The comic strip criticizes the values of society. There are three types of comic strips: daily strips (tiras diárias in Portuguese and tiras diarias in Spanish), usually printed in small quantities because of the pace of publication, in black and white (though some in color) and three some containing one to five), Sunday boards (pranchas dominicais in Portuguese and planchas dominicales in Spanish), usually printed in large quantities, in color (although some in black and white) and with a larger number of tables occupying a entire page and the yonkomas (yonkomas same in Portuguese and Spanish), of Japanese origin, with four vertical frames (although some in the horizontal) and who always deal with serious matters, but in a humorous form. Etymology: from the American English, comic strip, comic ribbon.

Charge (charge even in Portuguese and Spanish): short duration comics, usually occupying a single frame, containing a satire or message instead of a story and being humorous (although some with more than one frame, with stories and not being humorous). The cartoon criticizes people and things of the contemporaneity. Etymology: from the Franco-Belgian French, charger, burden or exaggeration.

Cartoon (cartón in Spanish and cartum in Portuguese): short duration comics, usually occupying a single frame, containing a satire or message instead of a story and being humorous (though some with more than one frame, with stories and not being humorous). The cartoon criticizes the situations of the day to day. Due to the similarities between the first animated short films and the cartoons printed and published at the time, the animated drawing name in English also refers to cartoon, in full, animated cartoon. The same thing happens in Italian and German, where the cartoon is called, respectively, cartone animato and animierte Cartoon. Etymology: from the British English, cartoon and these of the Italian, cartone, cartone, large piece of paper, sketch, study, draft or anteproject.

Here they here the articles and verbets for be revised in the respective idioms: https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tira_de_banda_desenhada, https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/charge, https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartoon, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comic_strip, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Editorial_cartoon, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartoon, https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tira_de_prensa, https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exageraci%C3%B3n_burlesca, https://pt.wiktionary.org/wiki/tira_cômica, https://pt.wiktionary.org/wiki/charge, https://pt.wiktionary.org/wiki/cartum, https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/comic_strip, https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/charge, https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/cartoon, https://es.wiktionary.org/wiki/tira_cómica, https://es.wiktionary.org/wiki/charge and https://es.wiktionary.org/wiki/cartón!

Including and principally, the certain is that the Wikipedia articles (described soon above!) should receive the following names in each idiom: Tira de banda desenhada, Charge and Cartum (desenho humorístico) - in Portuguese, Comic strip, Charge (humoristic drawing) and Cartoon - in English and Tira de historieta, Charge (dibujo humorístico) and Cartón (dibujo humorístico) - in Spanish!

Remembering and highlighting that the caricature has nothing to do with the other three because isn't a form of comic: is, simply, a humoristic exaggerated drawing of something or someone, be real or not, does not even have texts!

In fact, all my editions in this sense are already being reversed, I do not know why, since I understand a lot of comics, so I am a comic drawer, writer and scripter, so that I am no amateur and layman in the Whole subject, see it!

And well, as you can see, the cartoon isn't a type of comic strip, neither the charge is a type of cartoon, if possible, please, warn to your fellow editors to make the changes, very thanks since now for all attention and interest and a hug!

HydrizBot and the new Mediawiki-extension Cognate

change

Hi Hydriz,

I hope you have seen this post in your Simple talk. I would just like to point out to you, because your bot also adds interwiki links in German Wiktionary. I will stop my global bot UT-interwiki-Bot on April 21, 2017 until further notice to avoid unnecessary blocks in other Wiktionaries.

Greetings from Austria --Udo T. (talk) 15:00, 16 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes, thank you for the notice! I will be stopping the interwiki bot on April 23, 2017 and will begin removing interwiki links on all Wiktionaries after the extension is deployed on April 24, 2017. I hope you can also help do the same. --Hydriz (talk) 15:06, 16 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
In German Wiktionary we want to test the new extension in the first time (one or two weeks) in individual entries. If the new extension then works fine, my bot will clean the entries in German Wiktionary. It would therefore be good if your bot would not remove any interwiki links in German Wiktionary.
In other Wiktionarys, my bot will only help removing interwiki links, as long as I am asked specifically because I can not know whether the removal of the interwiki links through my bot is desired or not. By the way: do you have a script for removing the interwiki links or do you use replace.py?
Greetings and please excuse my possibly cruel English... ;o) --Udo T. (talk) 15:31, 16 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Hydriz and @Udo T.. I'm sysop and bot operator in eo.wiktionary. About this same topic, i started to clean interwiki links in that project. In order to avoid other bots restaure the interwikis, i've created a filter against addition of interwikis in any pages, which is matching HydrizBot and UT-interwiki-Bot edits ([3]). Just wanted to tell both of you and to know about the actions in other language versions of Wiktionary. Regards, Castelobranco (talk) 03:11, 17 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Udo T. Apologies for the delay. I hacked up my own script for this purpose and I just published it here for you. That would be the script that I would be using for removing the interlanguage links. Thanks! --Hydriz (talk) 03:23, 22 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi Hydriz, thanks a lot for the script. If you get too many queries to remove interwiki links from other Wiktionaries, feel free to ask me if I should support you. Greetings from Austria --Udo T. (talk) 17:10, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi all ! On fr.wikt we have started since the 24th to clean itws. There's lot job to do. If you want give a hand you can but if you prefer make the work elsewhere no worries about that ! Otourly (talk) 13:50, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Cinemantique Noted. I will begin running on the Russian Wiktionary only after May 1. @Otourly I can provide help when possible, but I give preference to wikis that do not have a local bot doing this task, so it might be a while before I start working on the French Wiktionary. Hope you understand!
To everyone else: I appreciate the effort and assistance in helping to remove the interlanguage links from Wiktionaries. However, please remember to respect the global bot policy and throttle your edits. I will be working on all Wiktionaries soon, but if your community wishes to get the interlanguage links removed earlier for some reason, please feel free to leave a message here and I will attend to your request shortly. Thanks! --Hydriz (talk) 14:08, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
