  1. An adjective is a type of word which usually tells about the properties of people, things, and other nouns (e.g., new, small, red, & bad are adjectives). Usually it can be used before the noun or after a linking verb. It can usually be graded and described by adverbs.
    He uses many adjectives in his stories to give us a clear picture.
    Some combinations of adjective and noun are quite common.
